Discover Your Timeline
Simply by taking the time to reflect upon your goals and outcomes, you are one big step closer to improving your life. Going a step further, you can harness the power of your unconscious mind to take the game to another level. The first step in doing this is to become aware of the way that your brain represents and codes time. Here”s a quick way to trace your own unique timeline (if you haven’t already):
- Think of something that you repeat every day, like eating lunch or taking the trash out. When you picture yourself doing that tomorrow, where is that image? Is it in front of you? To the right? To the left? Point to it with your finger.
- Now think about doing that same thing a week from now.. Where is the picture now? Further to the right or to the left? Is it in front of you or behind you?
- Repeat the step above doing that very thing last week. Where is the picture?
- Think of doing that same activity one month from now. Is the picture closer or further away? In front of you or behind you? Higher or lower?
- How about one month ago, in the past? Where you picture having done that same activity then?
- Repeat the steps above for one year in the future and then in the past. Locate those pictures and point to them.
- Now, connect all those points where your picture was in the steps above with an imaginary “line”, something like a “connect the dots” puzzle in your mind.
Congratulations, this is your Timeline. (and now that you’ve discovered it, you can start experimenting by altering in and see what happens but that will be the subject of another post…).
